Radar Map Overlay

Post by Zoi »

I was looking for a way to measure on maps and came up with a solution. Your will need three items. Glass2K, HoneyView, and protractorwcenter.png. These are all no install so you don't need to worry about them leaving stuff on your PC.

First Glass2K allows you to make any application window transparent. Honeyview is a graphics viewer that allows you to scale an image with ctrl + and ctrl -. protractorwcenter.png is a heading rose with distance rings on it that I made. To use start Glass2K then open protractorwcenter.png with HoneyView, set HoneyView's preference to have a white background and to use white for transparent images, right click on HoneyView and set transparency to 10%, open internet explorer to the page you want to measure on or an image, bring HoneyView to the front of your desktop. Find a scale on the image you are working with and match the measuring rings to it. You can then right click on the image in HoneyView and locate it as needed, if your monitor has a resolution greater than 1080 you will need a new heading rose just ask me and I will provide one.

I first got interested in this concept when I considered a way to put a screen capture of the mission planner over the radar screen. It will work for that as well but you would need to use a different graphic viewer for each image, the overlay and the measuring tool.
