Do anyone know if a/c onboard USS Enterprise feb.'44 had IFF

Post by EAF331_Starfire »

I am in the final stage of making a historical campaign of the US Navy raid on Wake the 24th of february 1942.
As I a history nerd I want as close as historical accurate as possible.
I know that USS Enterprise (CV-6) had the CXAM-1 experimental radar at the time of the attack on Wake.

Sources on the internet says it had the ability to detect IFF.

I know that the allies had established a common standard for IFF based on the british model.

The question is if the IFF's had been installed into USN aircraft at the time and on the USS Enterprise?

You didn't check my thread in campaign notes  just kidding.

http://www.cv6.org/ship/camo-radar.htm
SC-2 Search Radar Description: A second-generation air search radar, the SC-2 was approximately half the size of the CXAM-1. It included an integral IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) system and limited altitude detection capabilities.

An SC-2 set was installed as Enterprise's secondary search radar in late 1942, mounted on the starboard side of her funnel.

Range: Capable of detecting large aircraft at 10,000 feet altitude at 80 nautical miles (92 statute miles), or fighters at 10,000 feet altitude at 40 nautical miles (46 statute miles).
Accuracy: 100 yards.

Nope I dident!
I went to CV-6 but never found what I was looking for.
(Good site by the way ;-) )

According to Wikipedia, the installation of CXAM-1 began in 1941 and Enterprise was among the ships recieving one.

I then went to ibiblio.org
and found out about the RADAR and IFF:

But I ende up registring on shipmodels.info
and posting this question since they seem to have a lot of knowledge on the subjet of the carrier.

I haven't reciveved any emails from that forum yet, but there I have high hopes.

If I end up without answers before the release of SEOW suppoert for HSFX6, Ill end up forcing the US side to have no IFF.

To keep it as close to historical doctrin as possible the US side will be denied radar to the point where they deciede to strike.
