PARTIAL DESTRUCTION of COMBINE UNITS CLARIFICATION

Post by =69.GIAP=CONAN »

~S~!

Can somebody expand on the wiki's info regarding the destruction of combined units? I guess what we would like to understand is the process used to determine what and how much of what, is destroyed when say a Regimental Supply Column is attacked and say 10% of the vehicles are destroyed.

Hi Conan,

The Wiki is a little sparse on this explanation.

Consider a transport column of 10 vehicles, transporting 3 platoons plus 1000 litres of supply. Assume one transported platoon is a single infantry squad, another is a platoon of 3 MGs, and the last platoon is 4 observation balloons.

So the transport column is carrying:

1 x Infantry Squad
3 x MG
4 x Observation Balloon

Now, in a mission an enemy tank unit happens by and destroys 5 of the vehicles in the transport column. What is the state of the transport column?

Well, all the adjustments are based on the proportion of the transport column remaining. Since 5 vehicles are destroyed, the column has suffered 50% damage. SEOW does not track which freighted units are carried in which vehicle, so it guesses the proportionate loss to the freighted units.

Remnant supply is easy: 1000 litres x 50% = 500 litres remaining.

The for the carried units, SEOW creates a list of all the member objects in no particular order, in this case totalling 1+3+4 = 8 individual objects. SEOW then determines the number to destroy = 50% times 8 = 4 objects. SEOW then counts through the units and destroys the members until the total number to destroy is reached. Assuming the order is Infantry, MG, Balloon, then SEOW would destroy the infrantry platoon completely (1 object), then the MG platoon completely (3 objects), and the Balloon platoon would be unscathed. Commanders have no way of determining how the damage will be ordered and applied among the carried units.

The end result is a transport column consisting of 5 vehicles, carrying 500 litres of supply and a single platoon of 4 observation balloons.

Cheers,
