IL2fb.exe crashed

Post by 22GCT_Gross »

Hi,
I like you to know we flied the following mission and after about one hour il2 crashed.
This happens during an on line game (server hosting) and during an off line game as well.
Can you fly this mission (also in local mode) and check if you'll find the same problem?
We would appreciate your opinion about.

Hi gross. AG-51 and JG11 ran a campaign in the Guadacanal map and we too had an on-going problem. Everyone would freeze up right at the one hour mark.

Also, see this earlier post in the Tech area:

I'm pleased to say that genius Zoltan "Rnzoli" found out the problem and fixed it.

Due to the legal implications, there is no public download possible.
Moreover, I believe this problem concerns the players of Guadalcanal SEOW missions only, so there is no need to use it, unless flying SEOW missions on that map. Therefore the file is available on a need-to-know basis (for this reason, I sent it to you in PM by now. ) However, everyone who has it, is kindly asked NOT to transfer to others, due to the fact that I can get into trouble for this, should it get into the wrong hands.

If there is a suspicion that other maps also need extra large memory block for a 2-hour mission, the following simple test can be done:
1. Load a heavy mission on that map.
2. Start it and leave it running with AI aircraft only (no humans needed)
3. Periodically, e.g., every 15 minutes enter >GC into the chat line
4. In case the "total" value is nearing 100MB, the total IL-2 freeze is likely to occur due to hitting its own self-restraint limit. The other maps I tested can play around 50-80MB with no trouble at all, some shorter missions even stay in the low 25-50MB range.

It is hard to say, whether this is a memory leak fault or not. Guadalcanal is a large map, and I have seen memory reduction on other maps, as objects were being gradually removed (crashed, landed etc.) over time. So having a workaround is good enough for me, I don't want to chase the developers with this, especially when they solely focus on SoW:BoB nowadays.

Update: after I received confirmation that the very same problem effect a SEOW campaign on the Normandy map, I sent an e-mail to the pf at 1c.ru, which is supposed to be the official place to report errors. Anyhow I am not going to chase them, because I haven't got any response to my earlier reports concerning "Timeout 2"

Thanks for providing us a fix for this bug :!: :!: . Our campaign would have been canceled without you Zoltan.
