New Version: The "Manchuria" Release

On behalf of the SEOW Development Team, I am delighted to announce a new release for SEOW. The new release, officially termed 3.1.4 but also known as "Manchuria", is a consolidation of the 3.1.x series of patches and contains some nice features that extend SEOW's support for non-English languages. Included are Statistics language packs for French, German, Italian, Serbo-Croatian and Finnish (Suomi).

However, the most impressive additions are in the recent maps submitted by WTE_Goanna (Manchuria) and, earlier, II/JG77Hawk_5 (Berlin). These two guys are the best SEOW map-makers I have ever seen. I am sure that when you get a look at Manchuria and Berlin, you will see what I mean. I know that both Brandle and Warg are considering what kinds of campaign templates to build for these maps. Brandle is already advanced with bomber box formations over Berlin!

I believe that Goanna is working on a Kiev/Ukraine map for SEOW, and Hawk_5 is working on a Transdanubia (Hungary) map. Meanwhile =69.GIAP=PAVEL is looking at technology for vastly revised Kursk and Ardennes maps. That's all something to look forward to.

Release Notes
The software components in this release (MP, DCS and SEDB) must be used with each other. Due to structural changes, no component is interoperable with other components from previous SEOW releases.

B16Enk's Uniform Server 1.0
This wonderful tool is now deprecated as it pertains to the previous major SEOW release. Hopefully B16Enk will provide us with an updated version of the "BUS" soon.

Software Requirements
The new SEOW system requires the following free software installs:

Mission Planner v4.389
- PHP4 or PHP5 (server side)
- Internet Explorer 6/7, or Firefox with IE plug-in (client-side)

SEDCS v3.1.4 (32-bit binary only)
- MyODBC-v3.51.12 or later
- .NET Framework 2.0

SEDB31c
The SEDB31-series databases are available in MySQL4/MySQL5 and MSAccess2003+ flavours, and both flavours interoperate seamlessly with the other MP and DCS software components. Starting with this release, the SEDB is downloaded as a combined ZIP file, containing the MSAccess database PLUS all MySQL script files. The MySQL files are "Lite" databases for each sector, plus the full multi-sector "Reference" MySQL database.

nice :D - great job as usual :)

one question, is there a simple way to "port" existing campaign to new DB format ? :)

It depends on the amount of customization you have made to your existing campaign DB. The major important changes are in the Object_Specifications table. You can swap your old Object_Specifications table for the new one, then re-do any customizations you have made. If you intend to use Glider operations, then I would also recommend you to extend the Way_Type field length to 50 chars, just in case.

Note that some objects have changed specifications data, e.g. TSP and TTD class armour now have normal group strengths of 3, instead of 4. Some AAA and ART have changed engagement ranges etc.

Of course, before trying this, make a backup of your existing campaign DB, MP, DCS etc!

More than happy to do so. I wasn't sure who the attribution should be given to, so I guessed based on the email correspondence.

Jager, please accept my apologies!

Cheers,

No need to apologise 4Shades.

Paddington has done his fair share of work too, so i'm happy to give him more credit as i've been awol from flying duties
and this could maybe compensate for it
