Different OS's don't matter in the Java memory consumption. As I have come to understand, IL-2 uses Java for running AI or sumsuch, and SEOW with it's heavy utilization of AIs both on ground and in air, uses lot's of memory through Java. So, increasing the max quota for Java VM doesn't hurt.

Yup. What I do is to always have backup copies of the different game versions (HDD space is practically free nowadays). If something goes wrong -> delete -> copy from backup.

Major *facepalm* ... for some odd reason, my firewall had blacklisted the server IP. Has happened before, but in those cases it has always noted me about it and I have disabled it.
