Corvettes

Post by II/JG77Hawk_5 » Wed Feb 13, 2013 8:44 pm

Rather than copntinue this in Technical area it seems appropriate for a seperate thread.

Allies now have the Flower corvette instead of the Tral (trawler transport).

Ikey and I have also discussed the Axis forces swapping out the Admiral Murgesko for the Italian Gabbiano corvette that is now available in HSFX. Allies have discussed and are happy for this as it is more fitting for the sector and is a far better ship model. The Gabbiano does appear to have some extra firepower and range than the Flower but with speeds, skill level and reload time as an added factor in direct combat I think both ships could be in range of each other before effective hits are landed, assuming they come up against a 1 vs 1 situation. Its ok with Allies!

If this is agreeable could then the Flowers get their freight capacity back to previous levels?

The Gabbiano would also need to have a production date changed to bring them back to Jan 1940 as it is currently introduced in May 42. This maybe pushing it a little far seeing this is the case.

Would like to see opinions on this one.

I don't know if they are similar at speed and firing power. Wikipedia says both have a 100 mm gun. The Gabbiano has better AAA firepower and torpedoes (wich I don't know if they are modelled or not). The antisubmarine weaponry is useless (until 4S models the ASDIC and RADAR feature as increasing recon devices  )
Speed is about the same for both ships.

I think the Gabbiano could fit.
I'll have another look into the game.

Some extra info on the firepower of both from Ships.ini
Yes, the Gabbiano has the extra AAA and torpedos and a little extra reach with the RM90 main gun.

gun_torpedo (x2) - AttackMaxDistance 6000.0
gun_5_38Mk12 - AttackMaxDistance 15903.0

Flower:
gun_0120_1905 - AttackMaxDistance 10400.0

I see there's a 'Tuffetto' corvette, run out of time to check but looks like no torpedos which might be a fairer option . Or I'll just stay with the Murgesku type . You'll still outrange that & have that extra firepower with drop in freight.

Also Axis planning is complete for 0500 mission , will miss this mission I'm on nightshift all weekend.

cheers

The Tuffetto is an even later ship so the Gabbiano is fine. They're all made of steel and sink just the same.

I'm fine with the firepower its just the dates of introduction that I thought might be a concern. The last post was just for firepower clarification.

Decision time.
Can we get the freight limit back and we swap the Murgesku with the Gabbiano?

Allies keep original freight level and have a nice looking boat with some extra firepower but less range.
Axis get a nice looking boat with extra firepower and a bit more reach.

Win win!?

Had a lengthy discussion with all the Axis commanders & after much heated discussion I had to put my foot down & say happy with the change to corvettes & keep original freight capacity. :)

Done.
Check supply and ships in sector to ensure all is well. Fuel on board was also adjusted to ensure same percentage was in the tanks.

I felt the full force of Ikey's command philosophy. I am bruised and browbeaten, but all the better for it.
