Sarata Mod

Post by IV/JG7_4Shades » Tue Feb 28, 2012 7:22 am

Hi guys,

I want to make a little Sarata mod to enable artillery barrages and to adjust some max fire ranges for key objects. Let's get this in place before we start. Shouldn't take long.

Cheers,

Cool, will this mod be distributable or just for SEOWHQ use?

Just for HQ use, with Sarata.

Hi 4Shades,

Is it your intention for the 3 axis Sdkfz 37mm vehicles to be solely for AA purpose or also to engage ground units?

Based on what I have read in Wikipedia, they seemed to have the ability to shoot horizontally. I would be glad to hear any comments people have.

I suspected the Mod would just be used here at HQ but I'm still new to the community and I'm curious how things work. Take that into consideration if my questions seem off the wall :? .

I'm sure they could be used in ground combat as well as their designed role.

Having a flexible doctrine, the Germans used their anti-aircraft pieces in ground support roles as well, and 37 mm caliber guns were no exception to that.

The Handbook on German Military Forces has the traverse of the flak 18/36/37 as -5 deg to +85 deg but that is 1944 data.

IMO the Germans forces were proven to be excellent at improvisation on the battlefield and if they had the equipment and the capacity it would have been used against the enemy.

Here is the documentation for the Sarata Mod.

I have this working in HSFX v5.0.1 now, but still need to wrap up some MP and DCS features to round it off.

Please have a look at the ranges spreadsheet and discuss. The technics AttackRangeMax values are easy to change.

Cheers,

Very nice looking. The numbers look very good for the lethality and morale effect for the various artillery.

What is the meaning of the color code in the Approved column in the ranges table?

Just an aribitrary flag to show whether I thought the default HSFX and SEOW values were sensible for Sarata.

Some more progress:

1. I have updated some database tables to bring in new parameters for indirect fire operations with the howitzers and Katyushas. These are HSFX6 features that we will be testing.

2. I have adjusted the engagement ranges according to the data in the earlier post in this thread. If you go to the map and Toggle All Attack Ranges you will see the new ranges.

3. There is new functionality in the MP to display both indirect fire ranges and direct fire ranges for the barrage-capable objects (150 mm, 122 mm and Katyusha). You will also see the default LOS arc for each artillery object, which allows you to orientate your guns better.

4. Commanders can now set explicit barrage target coordinates, using the Logistics:Barrages tool. Go ahead, make your plans!

Recommendations before we get started

Commanders on both sides should have a good look at their units and the opposition engagement ranges. Ranges are now somewhat longer than before, especially for armoured units.

The first mission takes place at 0300 hours. It is very dark, so there is not much use in driving or flying. Sitting still and observing may be beneficial for the defenders, though.

I hope to distribute a version of the Sarata mod for use with HSFX v5.0.1 tonight. Once we have that, it is time to start!

Cheers,

Updated Sarata mod (v1.2) to fix Puma armour values.

All Sarata players to download and use v1.2 from now on.
