For background:

SEOW missions for Iron Front will use custom maps. Each player will need to download and install these maps.

Iron Front has a great mission editor where you can set up missions on any installed map.

OK, I think I have settled on the Soviet army formations that will take part. Five armies are represented by historical regiments, brigades, battalions and a company, as below:

Code: Select all

1GA, 47GRC, 280 Rifle Div., 840 Artillery Regt
1GA, 52RC, 183 Rifle Div., 227 Infantry Regt
1GA, 52RC, 183 Rifle Div., 623 Artillery Regt
1GA, 74RC, 147 Rifle Div., 15 Infantry Regt
1GA, 74RC, 147 Rifle Div., 538 Artillery Regt
1GA, 107RC, 167 Rifle Div., 156 Infantry Regt
1GA, 107RC, 167 Rifle Div., 224 Artillery Regt
1GA, 4TD, 1 Tank Bde
18A, 11RC, 24 Rifle Div., 7 Infantry Regt
18A, 11RC, 24 Rifle Div., 160 Artillery Regt
18A, 17GRC, 6 Guards Rifle Div., 4 Guards Infantry Regt
18A, 17GRC, 6 Guards Rifle Div., 34 Guards Artillery Regt
18A, 95RC, 66 Rifle Div., 33 Infantry Regt
18A, 95RC, 66 Rifle Div., 161 Artillery Regt
38A, 47RC, 121 Rifle Div., 393 Infantry Regt
38A, 47RC, 121 Rifle Div., 297 Artillery Regt
38A, 67RC, 211 Rifle Div., 887 Infantry Regt
38A, 67RC, 211 Rifle Div., 829 Artillery Regt
1TA, 3MC, 1 Mech Bde
1TA, 3MC, 1 Guards Tank Bde
1TA, 3MC, 756 AntiTank Btn
1TA, 6TC, 112 Tank Bde
1TA, 6TC, 1461 SU Regt
1TA, 6TC, 129 Guards Mortar Btn
1TA, 31TC, 100 Tank Bde
1TA, 31TC, 237 Tank Bde
1TA, 31TC, 1244 AntiTank Regt
3GTA, 9MC, 69 Mech Bde
3GTA, 9MC, 91 Tank Bde
3GTA, 9MC, 441 Heavy Guard Mortar Regt
3GTA, 6GTC, 30 Tank Bde
3GTA, 6GTC, 97 Tank Bde
3GTA, 6GTC, 1172 AntiTank Regt
3GTA, 15TC, 88 Tank Bde
3GTA, 15TC, 113 Tank Bde
3GTA, 15TC, 56 Miner-Pioneer Co.
The five armies (1st Guards Army, 18th Army, 38th Army, 1st Tank Army, 3rd Guards Tank Army) are added to the existing armies left over after Korosten fell.

I am attempting to portray the actual combat forces at about 10% strength. To do this I will make up TOEs for each of the lowest formations above, e.g. Rifle Regt, a Tank Bde so that the total Soviet force is about 10% of what front-line strength was actually combat-ready and on the ground at the time around Zhitomir.

Red commanders will be allocated an army above, or one of the Korosten remnants, about 50 units each, very roughly.

More soon...

What will the order of missions be? If there are both Il2 and IF missions to be run will the Il2 missions be run first and then the IF missions?

I don't know. I'm not even it sure it matters, since both types of missions will be built simultaneously and there is no feedback between them.

Purely selfish. If IL2 mission is run first, since I probably won't fly, I'll sleep in a little later.

I have a few observations concerning having the IF meta maps and dmz present in the MP.
I believe they are making artificial barriers to planning and may give rise to potentially gamey situations.

Examples:
1. A transport unit under CCCI should be able to be dispatched to another CCCI circle without a meta map and associated DMZ intervening in the movement. Presently, it is necessary to have a HQ ride along with every truck column if you're not going to get hung up on a DMZ and marooned.

Perhaps transportation units can be made autonomous for CCCI purposes?

2. Corridors between adjacent DMZ boxes may become channels of movement and attack simply due to the presence of the meta maps.

It would be great if some method to prevent fast moving units like tanks and vehicles, other than the meta map squares and DMZs, from doing double duty in IL2 and IF battles could be found. That way the IF maps and DMZs could be eliminated from the MP.

Perhaps a chronological trigger could be emplaced. By that I mean that if a unit was in an IF battle it would be disqualified from fighting in an IL2 battle in the same Campaign hour.
