Campaign server hardware

Post by Petr » Fri Sep 20, 2013 2:31 am

Hi all,

With the completion of the NW test yesterday night I thought I'd show some pics about the server hardware used.

All told we had +70 players at the start of the test, so 20 slots were unoccupied. Still not bad for a test mission.

To be sure, this was not a very heavy mission for the CPU, but I have no real worries about CPU power as the NE africa missions during the play test have shown. The biggest unknown was the network usage required for such a large amount of pilots. As you will see in the pic below, the peak was a about 500KB/s which is about 3.79Mbit/s upstream. That is no issue as it is less than 50% of capacity.

I did not hear any reports about lagging/stutters until very late in the mission when some incidents were reported that point to game version or mod pack mismatches. This is nobodies fault and probably unavoidable with so many players and the different versions of the mod pack. But, hey, that's why we test!

For the next mission, CRT=2 will be configured on the server so you will not be able to join unless you have the exact same game version/mod pack as the server. So make sure you get everything in perfect order before you try to join. Also, please come on time so you have time to test. The mission will be up at least 1h before mission time.
