We are starting the Tuchel Heath campaign now. Set in late 1939 on the Polish Border. Missions run once or twice a week!

If you want to get involved in this campaign, let us know.

I've noticed this post in the forum for some time now.

Are we just waiting on one more turnip to arrive before the campaign kicks off?

I think we've simply run out of time to fly it! I have no objections to having it run, but I am not sure how much time I have to get deeply involved with it. Sad

G'day,

We ran the first mission some time ago and it repeatedly locked up after about twenty missions in. Didn't get around to sorting it out and uses the North West Europe map. Rather than persist with this, we could use a newer campaign that incorporates the latest advances in SEOW. I'd suggest the Illustrious Blitz on the Fortress Malta map which is already setup on the SEOW server and ready to go. I'd personally like to fly more campaigns, especially using the harder mods such as advanced engine management standards and the like. Might be an idea to ask around for potential commanders or new bloods that'd appreciate a spell in the captains chair for this? Fix a suitable time for our crew and we'll kick it off if you like.

Regards,
Warg

Sounds good to me.

I know Brandle also has a small template brewing and we have room for a few types of campaigns for times when we are on and can plan impromptu missions and just fly them.

Lets do it!!

Put forward templates in works or completed and and kick off!

Hi5,

I have heaps of templates that I could get into use at short notice. Trick is to use those which incorporate the latest SFX patches and are finished and polished properly in their respective Navicat databases. Of these, I have about half a dozen right now on my server that I could copy and use immediately. I selected the "Illustrious Blitz" one on the Fortress Malta map, because it is on the SEOW site right now and we haven't flown in this area before.

Questions now are:

What times?
For me, Friday nights, early Saturday nights before the 1942 Slot, Sunday and weekday nights are also okay if not too late.

Commanders?
I'd be limited to only plotting fighter units as I know where the Illustrious is. Most plots will be aerial. If you want to split up the plots, can suggest red and blue divisions for assigning plots for:

(1) British RAF fighters squadrons
(2) British RN Squadrons
(3) British RAF bomber & recon squadrons
(4) Italian RA fighter squadrons
(5) Italian RA bombers & recon squadrons
(6) Luftwaffe fighter squadrons
(7) Luftwaffe bomber & recon squadrons

Settings:
Prefer full difficulty ones such as advanced engine management.

Warg

Hi Warg,
from a flying time point of view I hope we can remain flexible due to the nature of how we all get on here at various times and how real life can get in the way of scheduled mission times.
I have reserved Saturday nights for J42 at home but reserving more nights/weekends is a big ask here. I hope we can be flexible so that we can fly when enough people are online to make up numbers or even run it when there are almost none. This is due to the limited number of us on during our time zone's peak hour for IL2 flying.

Having a campaign focused on a small area should hopefully make quick mission plans easy.

Malta sounds like it this sort of thing so "Illustrious Blitz" is a go from me!!

I'm happy to fly an all out max difficulty setting campaign using agreed mods, no problem.

Engine management
crap weather at all times of day
obscure rules, (for example) :
recon only missions where we only fly in storches & stinsons etc
Get shot down and have to retrain in a trainer for a mission or two (oh yeah, and on a whole other map way back behind the lines)
forced to fly resupply flights in whenever they are used
the list goes on.....

Time to bring the draconian campaign plans out of the closet, stomp on everything that allows anything remotely gamey in the DCS, and let's fly!

People who come will be the sort who are fine on this anyway.
Well that limits the group to the very few some of which may even read this post. Just finding and reading this post with interest should get you a ticket to the MP.

I'm keen on being an Allied grunt for a change, getting bombed regularly and be out numbered every mission etc. Sounds like fun.

As for command, lets see who finds this and puts their hand up but lets get the DCS campaign settings agreed to.

Thanks
Hawk 5

I'll go along with that.

Definitely Yes.

Small templates for quick impromptu missions will have the group up flying more regularly , or the missions rotating more often .
My attendance is so irregular of late it wont be fair to expect too much from me atm.

Having said that I'd be interested in the Italian side for Blitz campaign.

G'day,

The date for the Illustrious Blitz scenario is set at around dawn of 16th January, 1941. This situation thus far is as follows:

Six days ago, the Luftwaffe heralded its pressence in the Mediterranean. While escorting convoy MS.6 from Gibraltar, the carrier, HMS Illustrious, was caught by the Stukas of I/StG1 and II/StG2, with its fighter cover out of position. In the ensuring six minutes, six direct hits were registered on the Illustrious, with a further hit in subsequent raids later in the afternoon. However, the crippled carrier managed to limp back to Malta, its Fulmar and Sea Gladiator fighters temporarily based at Hal Far.

For the past five days, exhausted German bomb stocks and bad weather has ruled out follow up strikes on the Illustrious. This has allowed much needed repairs to it, while berthed at Valletta. With clear skies for today, the professionals of Fliegerkorps X are on the way. The tough times in the siege of Malta are about to begin and it will never be the same again.

Nights rules apply between dusk and dawn. These are:
1. Plotted flights are halved.
2. Only multiengined bombers and Swordfish (trained for this) can be used.
3. Dedicated nightfighters (Blenheim MkIF & CR.42CN) are used.
4. Nightfighters are single flights and must be human flown.
5. CR.42CN restricted to Axis territory.

Plots available:
Red: Aircraft 20, Ground/Rail platoon 20, Flotillas 1
Blue: Aircraft 40, Ground/Rail platoon 20, Flotillas 0

I note the interest expressed and can advise that the blue forces can be evenly divided between Luftwaffe and Regia Aeronautica allocations. As template designer I'll rule myself out from any bomber mission plotting.

Some rules are listed above. In these and the settings used I'd like to exercise the wisdom of an ancient Athenian lawmaker called Solon (b. 630 BC). His approach was to "make no law you cannot enforce" and is the essence of democracy today. For this, I would ask that the host server use "check run time =2. It is not so much for this campaign between friends, but as testing for later ones where a much more widespread and unknown community are involved.

Please indicate your preferences and I'll issue the passwords.

Warg

I'll go blue (I tossed a coin). But if you want me to go red, that's fine too.

Cheers,

G'day,

I overlooked the fact the Fairey Fulmar was operationally used for night fighter and night intruder operations. In later parts of the war after being replaced by better fighters, it was specifically set aside for the nightfighter and the recon roles. Accordingly, I've made the appropriate ammendments to the rules to include it. It must also be noted that while the Fulmar (based on an updated Battle design) did not measure up very well against land based day fighters of the period, its robust structure and long range qualities were greatly appreciated by the Royal Navy. The second crew position of the navigator/wireless operator enhanced its night fighting and recon roles.

Warg

Can we rename this forum topic to Illustrious Blitz Campaign with Allied & Axis rooms?

All renamed, and I have reset the Allied/Axis memberships. Please apply to "Allied HQ Illustrious" or "Axis HQ Illustrious" to gain membership to the closed forums.

Cheers,
4S
