Unknown Pilot
What would cause the DCS to through up an error that says something like unknown pilot and then leave some human pilots stats empty?

Check the mission eventlog.
If a player disconnected during the briefing, once reconnected IL2 gives him a different callsign (as "callsign(0)") .
DSC parser is confused by eventlogs with such informations.
You can simply edit the eventlog (deleting redundant informations) and relaunch the analisis.

I will be more diligent 4Shades.
As it happens I had a viral event (as in my anti virus program behaved as a virus) I had lost my backup databases etc which had all got locked up by the anti virus program. I just went ahead and OKed through the errors as there was nothing I thought I could do about it. The event also forced me to reinstall IL-2 and I forgot to change the logfile settings meaning I had no log file later when I went to check it out.

this is the last case. Shades, I will send you the eventlog and the built database (if I have the copy).
The error was that =VARP=Kaso0 was not recognized as pilot.
Kaso0 was connected and then Kaso was disconnected.
However, while disconncted Kaso was registered in flight and he disconnected as Kaso0 who has no linked air regiment.
