Lag, low FPS and stutters

Ty Gross.
Lags
you are not syncronized; you are not sending packets to the server for a while, or you have a different netspeed setting on your conf.ini. [You Apollo have netspeed = 5000 (5000 byte/sec * 8 bit/byte= 40kbit/sec) instead of 10000 byte/sec as default value for seow campaign.]
I had another look in my conf.ini. I have input speed=10000. But, I found another speed=5000 at the very bottom and have now deleted it.

I will also take out some RAM leaving me with 8 GB and will continue to use the 512mb exe file.

Lets hope this helps. Thanks for all you input into this matter.

Hello Apollo, if you have Windows 7 in this way you bring your config.ini to another partition, activate the Word Pad as administrator make the necessary changes and save it. Then paste it again overwriting the root folder of IL2.

Hello

Hawk

Config.ini

Ok. I will try that Hawk. Why can't I just make the changes in the IL2 folder?

Should be able to. I can.

IIRC its down to UAC settings. If UAC is enabled it wont allow changes to files installed into certain folders, ie. if IL2 has been installed into the default directory of program files I believe that folder is protected by UAC and changes to the conf.ini are blocked, the folder will also have its properties checked as 'read only'

To bypass this problem you can just turn off UAC, install into a different directory and uncheck 'read only' in folder properties.

Or right click on folder where installed, then properties, then security, then you can edit permissions for various like admin, owner/creator etc.

You can enable the permission for write to the folder and anything in it.

If you can make changes to the conf.ini and save it in word or notepad, then it's not write protected.

Or enable the hidden admin account:

menu Start-> Run -> secpol.msc
Local Policies-> Security Options
Change the setting of the Administrator account (doubleclick)

First completed mission!

Hi gents.
I got through this mission without disconnect. Finally! But.....When I start the game with HSFX, the line"speed=5000" appears on the bottom of the (NET) part of my config.ini. I tried this multiple times offline yesterday and it happened every time. I changed(deleted speed=5000) and saved, but it happened over and over.
When I entered the server I got a warning in chat about low connection speed. Classic suggested I go into the controls/Network and make sure I was set to ISDN. But it was set to "Modem 56 kbs". So I changed it manually and was able to play for 2h 10m without any lag, stutters, low FPS or disco.
But I wonder why my config.ini changes by it self. I have always set ISDN in my network settings. In my config.ini I have set Speed=10000(should this perhaps not be a capital "S"??).
I have also checked the "read only" box in the config.ini properties.

S!

If your game is installed in "C:\Program Files\" you really can't edit the file. You can open it, edit it, save it.. but when you open it again, you haven't really edited it :) .. They just won't stick.

Same goes if the installed somewhere else, but you have the game running while trying to edit the file... So make sure it isn't installed in program files, AND you don't have the game running :)

This goes back to what I was saying about UAC and installing into program files.

Apollo try the other suggestion of copying the file to desktop then delete it from program files, edit the desktop version and then put it back in place.

Personally I never allow any program or game to install into program files, I like to be in control of my software.

Changing config.ini

Thanks guys.

My game is in my "F" directory, not "C". It is not in the"program files" folder and the game was not running when I made the changes to my config.ini.

I still do not know what a UAC is and where to find/edit it? There are some weird things going on with my game I guess. "Gremlins" as my North American brothers would say.

I also had my 4.11 game Crash to desktop 2 weeks ago. I decided to reinstall it and renamed the crashing one from "il2 Sturmovik 1946 4.11" to il2 Sturmovik 1946 4.11old" and then all of a sudden IT WORKED!!! So I didn't reinstall the game and use the renamed one. The same happened to my HSFX just a few days later, so I renamed it and added "old" at the end and now it works.
Anyone seen this before??

User Account Control

@Apollo

Click the start button, type in the search box UAC and hit enter

You should then be presented with a 'User Account Control Settings' window with a slider I set mine to the lowest level. I also run IL2.exe as administrator. You can tweak around and test just by launching the game after you modify the conf.ini.
