Scenario 2: Zhitomir Command Line-Up
Posted: Sat Nov 28, 2015 7:43 am
I am reasonably confident that we have the meta-SEOW functionality working reliably with Iron Front now, so I am moving rapidly towards establishing the Zhitomir scenario. The OOB is complex and scaled, so I will handle that myself. However I will ask German and Soviet commanders to place their own units themselves, subject to various limitations and prescriptions.
But we need commanders! The 2014 Korosten lineup was:
Axis
Armwaar: Sicherungs Regiment 375, Reserve-Grenadier-Regiment 212, Luftflotte 4
Ikey: Kampfgruppe Zwiahel
Scannon: 1 SS Panzer LSSAH
Faustnik: Pionier-Batallion 70
Emil: 1 Panzer
Warg: 7 Panzer
Charlie: Korps Abteilung C
Subg: 291 Infanterie
Brandle: Official Observer
Kopfdorfer: Official Observer
Allied
4Shades: 77 Rifle Corps (including 162 Tank Brigade), 2nd Air Army
Badger: 30 Rifle Corps
Hawk_5: 24 Rifle Corps (including 111 Tank Brigade)
Luny: 18 Guards Rifle Corps
Devill: Official Observer
Petr: Official Observer
Sadly, Hawk_5 is no longer with us, and I have not heard from Petr, Devill, Subg and Armwaar in a long time. Ikey may be on leave for the next month or two as well. Nevertheless, I am hopeful that we can get at least 6 regular commanders for Zhitomir - new participants are welcome. Missions will be held each weekend at an agreeable time, and I anticipate that we will run 1 IL2 mission plus 1 or 2 Iron Front missions each week.
Like the Korosten campaign, there will be air operations (within IL2), but at a low level of intensity and with a ground support profile. This is predominantly an infantry-dominated ground campaign with a historical force ratio based on the best data we have on the opposing forces present in the Zhitomir area at the time (late-December 1943). The focus here is on atmosphere, detail, difficult choices, and shared experiences. This is not a tournament, and there is no concept of balance or fairness.
Please register your interest in this thread and I will compile a list of commanders here in the message.
