AMERICA IN WWII - NEWS FROM FRONT - SEPTEMBER 1943 - NORTH ATLANTIC, BARENTS SEA
The second phase of the Convoys Battle paints of red the ice of Arctic Sea.
The Axis Forces hit hard the Allied Convoy escorted by the mighty HMS Duke of York, the King George V-Class battleship, of the Royal Navy.
The Admiral Ship was hit by more of 12 high explosive bombs, a couple of which, penetrated in the Saint Barbara.
The condemned ship sank in few hours.
A maximum effort was done by the rest or escort ships to rescue as many crew as possible, notwithstanding the worse atmospheric conditions.
Other two escort ships, the Cruiser Fiji class USS Tuscaloosa and the destroyer Nubian class HMS Brissenden were hit and destroyed during the same attack.
The Allied Convoy risks now to remain with insufficient escort forces to defend by an eventual attack of the German KriegsMarine.
We'll see soon what options the British Admiralty will be in condition to choose, trying to save the precious convoy in danger.

Astore wrote:Well done Cipson........... just a little remark, the burning battleship is not an allied ship but the Admiral Graf-Spee sunking in front of Montevideo bay, but who cares?
Ah ah ah You are right Astore.
The problem is that the BS HMS Duke of York survived to the War without many damages.
Anyway, searching better, I've found a dramatic photo of a King George V-Class battleship sinking.
Just posted...

Dear Soviet Russians,
We kindly request you to perform another propaganda pamphlet drop behind the Finnish-German frontlines. We promise not to shoot the plane down. It has already been several weeks since the last drop and we are quickly running out. Our ground troops are in dire need of some more toilet paper.
With kindest regards,
XXXVI Gebirgskorps & III Armeijakunta
